Phone Codes

I found most of these resources while trying to find a way to get the phone number of a friend in England so that I could help a few other people try to talk him out of setting fire to himself. Its very difficult to get a phone number for a private residence when you're in an entirely different country, even if you have a name and address. So this page is the result of that experience. I figure I've already looked up the info, might as well put it somewhere just a little bit useful.

Eurocall World Directories was recently brought to my attention. Just to see how accurate it is, I looked up a friend that I have in Germany and sure enough using just her last name and city it gave me her complete address and phone number. I'm sure not everyone is listed, but if you need an international phone number, I'd check here first.

To place an international phone call you need four things:

1) the code to access international (depends on the country that you are calling from)
2) the country code of the country you want to call (depends on the country that you are calling to)
3) the in-country routing code - called the area code in North America (usually depends on the city or state that you are calling)
4) the phone number you want to reach

Examples:
Samaritans in Leicester England
1) 011 (international from US)
2) 44 (UK country code)
3) (0*)116 (Leicester city code) *use zero only if calling from within UK
4) 270 0007 (samaritans phone number)

Emergency Services England
1) 011 (international from US)
2) 44 (UK country code)
3) 999 (emergency, no city code necessary)
